Summer Band 2013

It's time to dust off your old instrument and start playing in the U of M Alumni Concert Band for our summer concerts! We already have two concerts on the books at Normandale Lake in Bloomington and at Minnehaha Falls in Southeast Minneapolis. I am looking into options to get a third concert on the schedule for Tuesday, July 2nd. Even if you can't make it to all of the concerts, we would love to have you for as much as you are able! We are trying to stick to Tuesday as much as possible this year (except the Minnehaha Falls concert). Please also extend the welcome to those who are not strictly U of M alums to join the group. The more the merrier, and we have never had too many players!

President’s Letter

By: Stacy Nealy, UMBAS President

‘Tis the season to celebrate holidays, family and the new year.  It’s also the time to roll into our next elected council for UMBAS.  I am very fortunate to be President this coming year and appreciate the trust I’ve been given to represent you and our organization.

Engagement & Excellence 2012 Update

By: Matt Clark, Campaign Chair

Our goal at Band Alumni Society is to give back to the students.  The Engagement and Excellence campaign is a multi-year effort by UMBAS to ensure that students of the University of Minnesota can share their music around the state, the region and the country.

This year, UMBAS made it possible for bands to travel to New York City for the NIT, Tampa Bay for the Frozen Four, Las Vegas for the Football Season Opener, Lincoln, Nebraska and Houston, Texas for the Meineke Car Care Bowl.

Thank you to the over 75 donors that contributed directly, the hundreds of folks that attended our viewing parties, participated in Homecoming, and the countless current and former University of Minnesota musicians that played at over 30 events this year that raised awareness of the importance of music to the broader University of Minnesota community.

Enjoy the Big Games with UMBAS and Gopher Sports!

UMBAS has been hosting Gopher Sports watch parties during football and basketball games this year.  We've seen band alumni of all ages show up to tip a couple back, cheer on the Gophers, and some even play their instruments for the crowd.

These parties have not only provided a fun way to meet with friends, but also have raised funds to support our Engagement & Excellence Campaign.  During these parties we've hosted give-aways, drawings and silent auctions.  Joe Sensor's has also donated a portion of all purchases during our events to UMBAS to support the Marching Band.  In building stronger relationships with our band alumni,

2012 in Review

By: Rob Atkinson, Immediate Past President, UMBAS

As 2012 wraps up, I wanted to relay my thanks to everyone who has served the Band Alumni Society during my tenure as president over the past year.  Whether you gave of time, talent, or treasure, and whether it was a little or a lot, I truly appreciate all you have done.

UMMB Season Comes to a Close

By: Brandon Folkes, Drum Major

To all those who had any part in making this 121st season of the University of Minnesota Marching Band possible: we cannot thank you enough for everything.  Such a statement may sound exceptionally simple and broad, but it rings loud and true like each and every note of our beloved Minnesota Rouser.  So once again, we thank you all.
