February 17th, we are having our second Alumni/Student Networking Event. This is a great chance to interact with the students and talk to them about a variety of subjects as they get ready to apply for internships and jobs this spring. If interested, please click the link below and fill out the short registration form.
I would like to personally thank all of those who were able to participate in any of the homecoming events over the course of homecoming weekend. Seeing so many alumni reconnecting and making new connections with each other and the students really reinforces why the council as a whole puts in so much work throughout the year on homecoming as well as the other initiatives that are raising the Band Alumni Society to the next level. Another big thanks to Dr Diem and the staff for the extra work they put in to help the alumni march drill during halftime! Bring a friend or three next year!

The University of Minnesota Band Alumni Society Mentorship Program has entered its second year. The program pairs current band students with band alumni. Mentors are asked to share their experiences with job searches, job changes, and career building strategies and to provide general advice about working in their field. Twenty-three students signed up to participate in this year’s mentorship program, and UMBAS was able to match fifteen students with mentors in their field.

We just wanted to give you all an update on the 2012 Mentorship Program. Thank you to all of those who have volunteered to serve as mentors to current band students. We know these relationships built through mentorship will be very helpful as the students move through college.
We are still accepting applications to serve as mentors. We are especially looking for alums with backgrounds in the medical, veterinary, and Ph.D professions. If you fit one of these criteria or know someone who does, send them our way!
