UMBAS charter member Helen "Jane" Kingsley passed away this past May.  Her family sent a letter of thanks and rememberance to the Band Alumni Society.  With their permission, we are posting it for all of you to read and share.  Click here to download and view the letter (PDF file).

(Update - 8/10/10)  Thank you to everyone who has submitted a proposal to the Band Alumni Society's Executive Council for a new 4^th year marching band lithograph.  An artist has been selected by the Executive Council and will be working with the Council to design and create the new artwork.

In 1995, the Band Alumni commissioned an artwork, reproduced as lithographs, to award marching band members who have completed their 4^th year in the band.  We have been giving these lithographs out for about 15 years, and have come to the end of the original supply.  We definitely want to continue honoring those students in this way.  While we could reprint the original artwork, our intent was to reflect the spirit of the students in band - with an expectation that a given visual would last about 10 years.  So, it’s time for a new artwork.  Our goal is to have new lithographs printed by the 2010 Marching Band Banquet in the first week of December.

Alumni Mentorship Program - The Band Alumni Society is sponsoring a Mentorship Program for the U. of M. Marching and Concert Bands. As noted, "Not only can we provide guidance to band members, we can build a personal relationship between the Band Alumni Society and the Band Programs that will encourage graduates to join us in our mission in the future."  More information will be available here at www.skiumah.org later this summer.

The six winners will join 2010 President Matt Hanley, Secretary Charlie Smith, Treasurer Curtis Weyrauch, Past-President Ellen Sorenson, and 2009-2010 Council Representatives Matt Dockendorf and Mary Stepnick.  With her ascension to the Secretary-Elect position, Heather Clark will be vacating the second year of her 2009-2010 term as a Council Representative; Carly Danek was selected to backfill that opening by the Executive Council at their January 2010 meeting.
