UMBAS' Engagement and Excellence campaign marches into its second year by continuing to engage band members present and past in activities that support and promote the U of M bands throughout Minnesota.

Engagement & Excellence 2012 Update

By: Matt Clark, Campaign Chair

Our goal at Band Alumni Society is to give back to the students.  The Engagement and Excellence campaign is a multi-year effort by UMBAS to ensure that students of the University of Minnesota can share their music around the state, the region and the country.

This year, UMBAS made it possible for bands to travel to New York City for the NIT, Tampa Bay for the Frozen Four, Las Vegas for the Football Season Opener, Lincoln, Nebraska and Houston, Texas for the Meineke Car Care Bowl.

Thank you to the over 75 donors that contributed directly, the hundreds of folks that attended our viewing parties, participated in Homecoming, and the countless current and former University of Minnesota musicians that played at over 30 events this year that raised awareness of the importance of music to the broader University of Minnesota community.

Countdown to Kick Off: Campaigning Everywhere

Band Alumni Society appreciates your support and continued help in engaging fans around the state and around the country to support the Marching Band, Gopher Sports and the Alumni Band. Beginning with the Student Pep Band trips to the NIT in New York and Frozen Four in Tampa Bay and continuing with Faribault's Bruce Smith Golf Classic, to President Kaler's Ice Cream Social, to Dutch Cragun's Legacy Course Fundraiser to Meet Minneapolis' Eritrean Soccer Tournament, the Alumni Band have been everywhere in 2012 in an effort to raise awareness and funds for Student Band travel. We continue our efforts this week at the State Fair and in Las Vegas as part of the Countdown to Kick-Off and Thursday's game against UNLV in Las Vegas. Follow us on Facebook at Gopher Band Alums, on Twitter at @GopherBandAlums or in person this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the State Fair and in Las Vegas! Engagement & Excellence Campaign Update

The Engagement & Excellence Campaign continues this summer with a number of ways for you to get involved whether you want to volunteer, play or enjoy music, or donate to the campaign.

Engagement and Excellence Campaign Update

Written by Matt Clark Pep BandDid you know that UMBAS helped the Marching Band’s Pep Bands travel to the Women’s Hockey Frozen Four in Duluth, Men’s Basketball National Invitational Tournament in New York and Men’s Hockey Frozen Four in Tampa Bay? These trips are part of the outreach mission of the University and allow our Marching Band program to share our pride and spirit with fans and alumni that live in those areas or attend the games.

Engagement and Excellence Campaign

The University of Minnesota Band Alumni Society (UMBAS) is closing out another successful year. Homecoming weekend provided expanded playing and socializing activities for band alumni and their families. The first poker tournament was a success and we provided more opportunities for alumni and students to connect. It has been great to see so many people participating in these events and we look forward to connecting with you again in the future as UMBAS continues to be an organization that creates opportunities for members to play music, socialize and give back to the band programs in numerous ways. Looking ahead to the future, there are some funding challenges that need to be addressed. The Marching Band has not traveled to a regular season away football game since 1997. During that same time period, the other University bands and ensembles have struggled to engage with K-12 musicians throughout the state. UMBAS would like to collaborate with alumni to solve these issues by proposing Engagement & Excellence Endowments.
